Because life happens.
Not just in a "something came up" way. More like your flight gets rerouted, you miss a EUR600 hotel night in Venice, and your luggage spends four days somewhere else.
A straight-talking guide to what travel protection actually does: what it covers, what it costs, when to buy it, and how to choose a plan.

No one plans to cancel, the same way no one buys health insurance because they are planning to get sick. Cancellation is one piece. The better reason is quieter: once you have left the country and put real money into the trip, you want help with the missed hotel night, the delayed bag, the storm at the connecting airport, the clinic bill you did not expect.
Here are our top four reasons to buy coverage other than a last-minute cancellation.
Not just in a "something came up" way. More like your flight gets rerouted, you miss a EUR600 hotel night in Venice, and your luggage spends four days somewhere else.
This is our favorite part. Allianz assistance can help with medical referrals, lost documents, legal referrals, emergency cash transfer, and hospital payment guarantees when the plan allows it.
Premiums are based on your age and the non-refundable amount you choose to insure, so refundable flights do not need to be part of the math. Deposits you would actually lose do.
The point is not worry. It is having a real plan for the dull, expensive things that can interrupt a good trip: delays, bags, doctors, documents, and the flight home.

Quote through this page and you get an advisor in your corner. Because your policy is arranged with us, we can pull your documents, walk you through what is covered, help you keep the plan up to date, and step in to advocate for you with Allianz if a claim gets complicated. Allianz is your insurer; your policy and certificate of insurance are the final word on coverage.
Spellbound may receive compensation when a traveler purchases through this Allianz quote flow. That connection does not change your premium. Plans, benefits, limits, exclusions and eligibility vary by state and policy.

Coverage breakdown
The point is not to memorize every clause. It is to know which problems travel insurance is built for, and which ones require a different plan or a different decision.

Where people get caught
The cheat sheet
No. But the trips Spellbound tends to plan are rarely the tiny, fully refundable kind. If the itinerary has real non-refundable money in it, crosses a border, includes older parents or kids, or depends on one perfect chain of flights, coverage belongs in the file.
Yes, almost certainly, if
You can probably skip it if
Five minutes, no account, no pressure.
Delays and bags
The captured World Travel Protection quote includes up to $1,000 for travel delay, $2,500 for baggage, and $500 for baggage delay.
That does not mean every delayed bag or late flight automatically pays. The plan document defines the covered reasons, timing, and documentation. Keep carrier notices and records of expenses; that boring paper trail is what turns a bad travel day into a payable claim.
SmartBenefits
Eligible tracked flight delays can trigger a fixed payment without filing a claim, when the plan includes the benefit and the delay qualifies.
Baggage
World Travel Protection describes fixed payment options for some baggage benefits, subject to plan terms and limits.

Pricing
A premium is not a flat fee. It is calculated from inputs: who is traveling, where, for how long, how much non-refundable money is at risk, and which plan or upgrade you choose.
The largest input is the prepaid, non-refundable amount you choose to insure.
Travelers of different ages can price differently because medical exposure changes.
Longer trips and destinations with harder medical logistics can move the quote.
Higher limits, Cancel Anytime, annual coverage, and rental-car protection affect premium.
Benefits and availability are regulated state by state, so some filings differ.
Timing may affect eligibility for waivers and some benefits, even when the quoted premium is unchanged.
Before you skip it
Sometimes, a little. But "I have a card benefit" and "I am covered" are rarely the same thing.
Ask three questions before relying on existing coverage: am I covered abroad, do you pay the hospital directly, and do you cover evacuation? Either answer is fine. What you want is a decision, not an assumption.
Why Allianz
A cheaper policy is not useful if nobody understands the itinerary or the documents disappear when a claim starts. We use Allianz because the benefits, assistance line, and claims process are familiar enough that we can help clients use the plan they bought.
Where Spellbound fits
We help decide what belongs in the quote, update insured costs as deposits are paid, retrieve documents, and organize receipts, carrier notices, and claim forms.
Where Allianz fits
Allianz is the insurer and assistance provider. Their certificate decides coverage, their 24-hour team handles emergencies, and their claims team makes the coverage determination.
The plans
These are the single-trip plans Spellbound travelers most often compare. Your quote confirms exactly what is available for your state, dates, ages, and trip cost.

Group Advantage is for groups of 10 or more and is quoted through us. Annual Premier, Executive, and Deluxe are a different product family for frequent travelers; exact annual benefit limits belong in the quote.
WTP and Latitude figures are confirmed against Allianz public plan pages and the Spellbound source ledger. Basic and Group Advantage figures are from the June 2024 Allianz materials in the local source ledger. State variations, sublimits, terms, conditions, and exclusions apply.
Plan types
Standard travel insurance is named-reason coverage. Cancel Anytime is the upgrade for many non-covered, unforeseeable reasons.
Standard coverage
Standard coverage can reimburse up to 100% of insured trip cost when the reason is listed in the plan: illness, injury, death, severe weather, supplier default, mandatory evacuation, jury or military duty, and other covered reasons.
Cancel Anytime
Allianz's Cancel Anytime upgrade can reimburse 80% of lost non-refundable costs for many unforeseeable reasons not otherwise covered. It must be purchased within 14 days of the first trip payment and carries lower maximum trip-cost limits.
When to buy
Some benefits depend on when you buy. Supplier default can require purchase within 14 days of initial deposit. Pre-existing-condition waivers also have timing and eligibility rules.
World Travel Protection and Latitude have a useful advisor-plan distinction: the pre-existing-condition waiver can remain available through final payment when every plan condition is met, including insuring the full non-refundable trip cost. Basic and Cancel Anytime use the 14-day rule.

In practice
A plan is easier to understand when it is attached to a real travel problem.
A covered illness in an immediate family member can be a covered cancellation reason. Reimbursement is limited to insured, prepaid, non-refundable costs.
World Travel Protection lists $50,000 emergency medical and $1,000,000 emergency transportation. Trip interruption can also respond when a covered reason cuts the trip short.
WTP travel delay starts after 5 hours; Latitude starts after 3. SmartBenefits may pay eligible tracked-flight delays without a traditional claim.
That is not a standard covered reason. Cancel Anytime is the upgrade designed for many non-covered, unforeseeable reasons, with 80% reimbursement and its own timing rules.
